Designing the Perfect Set: How I Turn Inspiration Into Nail Art

Designing a nail set is so much more than picking a colour and hoping for the best. At Tiffany’s Manic Salon, every set starts as an idea, a spark, and transforms into a tiny piece of wearable art. My background in fine arts taught me that design is a process, not a moment, and that philosophy shows up in every brushstroke I make.

Inspiration Comes From Everywhere

Design ideas hit me in the most unexpected places. This week alone, I pulled inspiration from:

  • A fabric pattern on someone’s jacket

  • A colour palette from an old painting I did

  • The texture of a ceramic mug

  • A random Pinterest scroll at 2 a.m.

Art school trained my eye to notice details, the way colors blend, the balance of shapes, and the mood behind a design. Now, those same instincts guide my nail art.

Sketching the Vision

Before I touch a nail tip, I sketch. Sometimes it’s a full design, sometimes it’s messy doodles only I understand. But sketching helps me:

  • Test colour combinations

  • Play with layout

  • Explore different styles

  • Avoid overthinking once I start painting

It’s the bridge between imagination and execution.

Choosing the Right Colours

Color is everything. It sets the tone, the mood, and the personality of the set.

My process:

  • Pick a base palette

  • Add one “surprise” colour for contrast

  • Adjust tones to match the vibe (soft, bold, moody, bright)

This is where my painting background really kicks in when blending, layering, and balancing colors until they feel just right.

Bringing the Design to Life

Once the plan is set, it’s time to paint.

This is the part I love most:

  • Tiny brush strokes

  • Layering details

  • Adding texture or shine

  • Watching the design evolve

It’s the same feeling I had when I painted canvases, except now the canvas is the size of a fingertip, and the challenge makes it even more fun.

Refining the Final Look

After the design is complete, I step back and ask:

  • Does this set tell a story

  • Is the balance right

  • Does the design feel cohesive

  • Would I wear this

If something feels off, I tweak it. Art is never about rushing, it’s about intention.

Designing nails is my favorite kind of chaos, creative, colorful, and endlessly expressive. Every set is a blend of my art‑school roots, my custom painting experience, and my growing esthetics training. At Tiffany’s Manic Salon, you’re not just getting nails. You’re getting a piece of art made just for you.

— Stay polished, stay playful, and keep it manic.
